apología

/apoloˈxia/

noun, feminine/apoloˈxia/plural: apologías

apology (a justification or defense); apology (an excuse or expression of remorse for a wrongdoing)

Borrowed from Late Latin apologia, from Ancient Greek ἀπολογία (apología, “a speech in defence”), from ἀπόλογος (apólogos, “an account, story”), from ἀπό (apó, “from, off”) + λόγος (lógos, “speech”). In the “expression of remorse” sense, a calque of English apology, and most common in Llanito, considered a proscribed false friend otherwise.
