catalufo

/kataˈlufo/

noun, masculine/kataˈlufo/plural: catalufos

Catalan secessionist

Synonyms: polaco, lazi, separrata, catalino

Probably a blend of catalán (“Catalan”) + Catalan castellufo (“a speaker of Spanish”). The second element, castellufo, is a Catalan word made of castellufa, a derogatory name for the inhabitants of Es Castell by the Spanish-speaking military; itself made of castellà (“a Spanish speaker”) and llufa (“a silent fart”), meaning that a term with the opposite meaning was created from it. Another possibility is that it is simply a blend of catalán (“Catalan”) + pitufo (“smurf”) for stereotypical reason
