verb/dobleˈɡaɾ/

to bring down, vanquish, conquer, topple, defeat; to fold, bend; to divide by two; to kneel down

Synonyms: doblar, plegar

From Latin duplicāre, probably through the intermediate of Catalan doblegar in the 15th century, as it was not found earlier in Old Spanish texts and is completely absent in Portuguese as well. Doublet of duplicar, which was later borrowed directly from Latin.
