ajuntar

to put together; to whack together; to be friends (with)

Usage

Colloquial Spanish (especially in Spain, and especially in children's speech) with two uses: literally, to put or bring things together, and, in the fixed childish phrase ya no te ajunto, to declare someone is no longer your friend — a schoolyard way of ending a friendship.

Examples
  • Ya no te ajunto por lo que hiciste. — I'm not your friend anymore because of what you did.
  • Ajuntaron las mesas para la fiesta. — They pushed the tables together for the party.
  • Los niños decidieron ajuntarse para jugar. — The kids decided to team up to play.
Common mistake

Using ajuntar as a general synonym for juntar in formal or adult writing — outside its specific childish ya no te ajunto phrase, standard Spanish uses juntar, and ajuntar can sound substandard or overly colloquial.

Often confused with juntar.
