Verb conjugation

alborear

to dawn (to begin to brighten with daylight); to originate, to begin

Usage

An impersonal, mostly literary verb meaning to dawn — used almost exclusively in the third person, alborea, like amanecer. It shows up in poetry and elevated prose more than in everyday speech, where amanecer is the default word for 'to get light out.'

Examples
  • Empezaba a alborear cuando salimos de casa. — Day was starting to break when we left the house.
  • El poema describe cómo alborea sobre el valle. — The poem describes how dawn breaks over the valley.
  • Apenas alboreaba y ya estaban en pie. — It had barely started to dawn and they were already up.
Common mistake

Trying to conjugate alborear in persons other than the third singular — like amanecer in this sense, it's essentially only used impersonally (alborea), never yo alboreo or tú alboreas.
