anunciar

to announce, to herald, to proclaim; to annunciate

Usage

To announce or advertise — news, a decision, a product, an arrival. One of the most common verbs for any kind of formal or informal announcement, from a company anunciando resultados to a friend anunciando que llega tarde.

Examples
  • El gobierno anunció nuevas medidas económicas. — The government announced new economic measures.
  • La empresa anunció su nuevo producto en redes sociales. — The company advertised its new product on social media.
  • Me anunció que se mudaba a otra ciudad. — She announced to me that she was moving to another city.
Common mistake

Forgetting that anunciar also means "to advertise" (anunciar un producto), not just "to announce news" — English speakers sometimes default to publicitar or promocionar when anunciar already covers advertising.
