To regulate oneself, without external control — used for markets, institutions, biological systems (the body autorregulating temperature or hormone levels), and personal behavior alike. Note the double r, required because auto- (ending in a vowel) meets regular (starting with r) — autoregularse, with a single r, is a common misspelling.
