avahar

A rare, mostly literary verb meaning to blow breath or vapor onto something, to warm something with steam, or, used intransitively/reflexively, simply to give off vapor — from vaho (mist, steam, the visible vapor a body or surface emits).

• Avahó el cristal y escribió su nombre con el dedo. — He breathed on the glass and wrote his name on it with his finger.
• El caballo avahaba en el aire frío de la madrugada. — The horse's breath steamed in the cold early-morning air.
• Avahó sus manos heladas antes de tomar la taza de café. — He breathed warm air on his freezing hands before picking up the coffee cup.

A rare, literary word most learners will never need actively — recognizing it in older or descriptive prose matters more than producing it in conversation, where echar el aliento or empañar (for fogging glass) are far more common.
