The more common of two near-twin verbs for sparkling, twinkling, or flashing — used for stars, light on water, jewelry, or eyes flashing with emotion: las luces centelleaban en la distancia. Interchangeable with centellar, but centellear is the one you'll actually hear and read more often.
Treating centellear as identical in register to brillar — centellear specifically implies an intermittent, flickering sparkle, not a steady glow, so it's the wrong choice for something that just shines constantly.
Often confused with centellar.
