dar virote

A Central American (especially Salvadoran) colloquial expression meaning to make the most of something or to throw oneself fully into an activity. It's regional slang you're unlikely to hear outside El Salvador and neighboring countries.

• Le vamos a dar virote a la fiesta este fin de semana. — We're going to make the most of the party this weekend.
• Dale virote al proyecto, ya casi terminas. — Throw yourself into the project, you're almost done.

Learners sometimes assume virote always carries a vulgar or negative charge because of similar-sounding Mexican slang — in this Central American expression it doesn't; it's simply colloquial, not offensive.
