to spoil, tarnish, mark, take the shine off
Means to tarnish, dull, or take the shine off something — literally (el sol deslució la pintura, the sun faded the paint) or figuratively, spoiling an otherwise good performance or occasion: la lluvia deslució la ceremonia (the rain marred the ceremony). The opposite of lucir (to shine, to look good).
Confusing it with the much stronger destruir or arruinar — deslucir means diminishing the shine or impact of something, not ruining it outright; the thing marred still basically works or happens.
Often confused with lucir.
