"To see," both literally and for understanding ("ya veo," "I see" / "I get it"). One of the few verbs with an irregular yo form (veo) but an otherwise fairly regular pattern — the irregularity is really just in that single form and the past participle visto.

• Veo el mar desde aquí. — I can see the sea from here.
• ¿Nos vemos mañana? — Shall we see each other tomorrow?
• No veo el problema. — I don't see the problem.

Confusing ver (to see, perceive) with mirar (to watch/look at deliberately) — "I watched a movie" is more naturally vi una película in casual speech, but mirar is the better fit when emphasizing the act of watching rather than having seen it.

Often confused with mirar.

• expression "Ver para creer" — A common Spanish expression of skepticism — "seeing is believing" — traditionally traced to the biblical episode of the apostle Thomas, who refused to believe in the Resurrection until he could see and touch Jesus's wounds himself.
• expression "Ojos que no ven, corazón que no siente" — A widely used Spanish proverb — "eyes that don't see, heart that doesn't feel" (roughly "out of sight, out of mind") — with a close variant, "ojos que no ven, corazón que no quiebra," appearing in the second part of Cervantes's Don Quijote.
