proper noun/sɛʁ.vɛ̃/

Matterhorn

Inherited from Middle French Servin, from Old French Selvin, from Late Latin mōns (“mountain”) silvanus (“wooded”). The first letter was changed to a C when Genevan geologist Horace Bénédict de Saussure confused the name with French cerf (“deer”).
