Noranda

/nɔ.ʁɑ̃.da/

proper noun/nɔ.ʁɑ̃.da/

a neighbourhood and former city in Rouyn-Noranda Regional County Municipality, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, Canada

Related: Norandien, Norandienne, Rouyn-Noranda

The neighbourhood is named after a former mine, the name of which derives from a contracted compound of nord (“north”) + Canada. The middle c of the compound was dropped as the result of a transcription error.
