verb/a.dʁɛ.se/
to direct; to address
“Est-ce qu'il s'adressait à la table?” — Has he been addressing the table?
Inherited from Old French adrecier (“to straighten, address”), from a- (Latin ad (“to”)) + drecier, drecer (compare with modern French dresser) < Vulgar Latin *dīrēctiāre, from Latin dīrēctus (“straight or right”), from the verb dīrigere. Compare Italian indirizzare.
