Of uncertain origin. One possibility is a derivation from bisogne (“recruit, new soldier”), which was borrowed from Spanish and used from the mid-16th to early-17th century, and is still listed in some modern dictionaries as archaic, but this presents difficulties from a phonetic and chronological perspective. A second possibility is a loan from Franco-Provençal bésu (“inexperienced”) or the related Franco-Provençal bésule (“new student”), but this seems unlikely as well.
