Either directly from tête de boche (“stubbornhead”), perhaps derived from caboche (“head”); or shortened from alboche, an alternation of allemand (“German”) influenced by tête de boche or the element -boche in rigolboche (“funny dance”), the latter perhaps ultimately from bamboche (“large marionette”). Alternatively, from the German family name Bosch.
