According to the Trésor de la langue française informatisé, the word would be borrowed in 1671, "at the time when Dutch navigation dominated", from Dutch kok, from Latin coquus. But the Dictionnaire du moyen français, referring to the attestations in 1354 and in 1491-1492, makes it a doublet of queux, directly from Latin coquus.
