tuyé

/tɥe/

noun, feminine/tɥe/

A pyramidal smokehouse chimney, commonly found in farmhouses on the French-Swiss border.

Autrefois foyer, âtre chaud où se tenir, cuisine et fumoir pour la conservation de la viande, le tuyé accueillait la veillée.Formerly a home, a warm hearth to sit in, a kitchen, & a smokehouse for the preservation of meat, the tuyé used to accommodate evening gatherings.

Possibly from the fact it contains the stovepipes (tuyaux) of a house; or perhaps from a Celtic root meaning 'roof'.
