verb
to come along, come with, join
“Nous allons au musée. Tu viens avec?” — We’re going to the museum. Are you coming along?
Calque of German mitkommen, Dutch meekomen, and the respective dialect forms. While it could per se be a simple ellipsis, the regional distribution makes Germanic influence obvious. Compare English come with, also believed to be a calque of continental Germanic (and Scandinavian).
