bader

A regional and slang verb with two distinct senses: in the South of France, it traditionally means to loaf around or gawk idly (in the same family as badaud); in modern youth slang nationwide, it means to feel down, depressed, or anxious about something.

• On a bien badé sur la place du village tout l'après-midi. — We spent the whole afternoon loafing around the village square.
• Il bade grave depuis qu'elle l'a quitté. — He's been really down since she left him.
• Arrête de bader pour ton contrôle, tu vas bien le réussir. — Stop stressing about your test, you'll pass it fine.

The two meanings are unrelated in register and region — using the slang 'to feel down' sense outside casual youth conversation, or the Southern 'to loaf around' sense outside that regional context, will sound out of place.
