A colloquial, somewhat dated slang variant of charrier, meaning to exaggerate, overdo it, or go too far — faut pas cherrer (don't push it). It's more regional and generational than charrier: more likely heard from older speakers or in older films than in current youth slang.

• Il a cherré en disant qu'il avait couru un marathon en deux heures. — He was exaggerating when he said he ran a marathon in two hours.
• Faut pas cherrer, quand même ! — Come on, don't push it!

Cherrer and charrier overlap heavily in this 'to exaggerate' sense — charrier is the far more common and current choice today, so learners are better off defaulting to charrier and just recognizing cherrer when they hear or read it.
