Usage

Coiffer most often means to do someone's hair or style it (coiffer une cliente chez le coiffeur), but it also means to cap or top something (une tour coiffée d'un dôme) and, idiomatically, coiffer quelqu'un au poteau means to beat someone at the very last moment, from horse racing.
