déstocker

A commercial and retail verb: to sell off existing stock or inventory, usually at a discount to clear space — vente de déstockage is the noun form seen on sale signs. It's the opposite of stocker (to stock up) and is almost always used in a business or logistics context, not in everyday personal speech.

• Le magasin déstocke ses invendus avant les soldes. — The store is clearing its unsold stock before the sales.
• L'entreprise a dû déstocker rapidement après la baisse de la demande. — The company had to sell off inventory quickly after demand dropped.
• Ce site web permet aux marques de déstocker leurs surplus. — This website lets brands offload their surplus stock.

Don't confuse déstocker with the informal, non-commercial déstresser (to de-stress) just because both start with dé- and sound similar in fast speech — déstocker only ever applies to goods and inventory, never to a person's emotional state.
