Verb conjugation

fatiguer

to tire; to wear out, to drain

Usage

To tire someone out (le voyage m'a fatigué). It is usually used reflexively, se fatiguer, to become tired or wear oneself out; the participle fatigué is the common way to say 'tired'.

Examples
  • Cette longue marche m'a fatigué. — That long walk tired me out.
  • Ne te fatigue pas, je m'en occupe. — Don't tire yourself out, I'll deal with it.
  • Il est fatigué ce soir. — He is tired this evening.
Common mistake

To say 'I am tired', French uses the adjective je suis fatigué, not je fatigue (which means roughly 'I am flagging'). Ne te fatigue pas also means 'don't bother'.

Often confused with épuiser.
