Usage

To bend (fléchir les genoux, le bras), and figuratively to weaken or give way (sa volonté a fléchi) or to soften someone's resolve (fléchir un juge). It is a regular -ir verb like finir.

Examples

Fléchissez les genoux avant de sauter. — Bend your knees before jumping.
Le gouvernement n'a pas fléchi. — The government did not yield.
La demande a fléchi au deuxième trimestre. — Demand slackened in the second quarter.

Common mistake

Do not mix it up with flécher, to mark with arrows. Fléchir is conjugated like finir (nous fléchissons).
