to exhaust, deplete, use up; to run out
To exhaust or use something up completely — agotar las existencias (to sell out of stock), agotar la paciencia (to exhaust someone's patience) — and, reflexively (agotarse), to become physically or mentally worn out. One of the most common ways to say something ran out or someone is drained.
Forgetting the reflexive for personal exhaustion — "I'm exhausted" is estoy agotado/me agoté, not just agoté (which would need an object, like agoté mis fuerzas).
