ahidalgar

A rare, literary verb derived from hidalgo (a member of the lower nobility) — to make someone act or appear noble, whether ennobling them in fact or merely giving them noble airs. Essentially obsolete outside historical or literary Spanish, a word learners mostly meet in Golden Age-era texts rather than modern speech.

• El título lo ahidalgó ante los ojos del pueblo. — The title gave him a noble air in the eyes of the townspeople.
• Vestía con tal porte que parecía ahidalgado. — He dressed with such bearing that he seemed to carry himself like nobility.
• La fortuna repentina lo ahidalgó, al menos en apariencia. — The sudden fortune gave him the trappings of nobility, at least in appearance.

This verb is archaic enough that there's no real modern mistake to flag — a learner is unlikely to ever need it outside reading classical Spanish literature.
