Usage

A semi-formal, somewhat dated verb with two related senses: to formally adopt a child (ahijar a un huérfano), and figuratively, to attribute a saying, idea, or blame to someone it doesn't really belong to. The noun ahijado/ahijada (godchild) is far more common in everyday speech than the verb itself.
