The everyday verb for believing — in facts, in people, in religion — and also used loosely to mean "to think" when giving an opinion ("creo que sí").

Common mistake

Creer que in the affirmative takes the indicative (creo que es verdad), but no creer que switches to the subjunctive (no creo que sea verdad) — a very common stumbling point for learners.
